Dear 5Deka reader, Rejean Bourgault tested the Tesla car on May 15th 2013. Amazing car, the future is here, for sure.
Rejean was amazed by the car overall technology, the speed, the silence of the drive, the power of its small electric motor (see picture). The difference of the Tesla, is definitively its technology, the structure of the car itself (unique platform), the battery and autonomy (500Km in city with the high end battery), the luxury interior with a 17 inch LCD dashboard (with fully integrated Internet browser). There is no liquid in the entire car, with the exception of the windshield washer. Think maintenance to its lowest form and cost.
The first Canadian Showroom in Yorkdale Toronto shopping mall is next to an Apple store and Microsoft's new store. The overall purchase experience is similar to buying a new iPAD or Mac. The product specialist reminds me of the Apple store staff, they are not paid on commission either.

This video showing a a driverless car in action is very exciting. It shows that people with disabilities who can't necessarely drive would be allowed, thanks to that technology, to drive again. Of course, we also believe that over the next few decades, most of these disabilities will be curable, thanks to stem cell and other advanced procedures.

This article describes how automobile makers are working on making their cars more intelligent, not only by improving the control of the car but also by having the car monitor the driver's condition. In this example, Ford is looking at monitoring glucose levels in the driver, generating an alert if the blood sugar levels reach too low of a threshold.

Designed by a Czech firm, this is just at the concept stage, but it could very well represent how this mode of transportation could evolve in the future. Even though an improvement in public transport will mean a greater and easier access to public transport for everyone, there are always some occasions that you need some kind of door to door transportation system, so taxis will always be around. Eventually, with the proper equipment and technology, vehicles will be able to go to the proper direction on their own which would make this concept more of a reality. This mode of transport could be very eco-friendly as well, both on the construction of the vehicle as well as usage as it could easily be fitted with an electrical engine and go recharge itself when it's low on power.

Wired just published an article about a new way to recharge electric cars. We know that electric cars are the way of the future but they still have some major flaws that need to be improved. One of those challenge is the length of time required to recharge the battery at the "gas station". Even though they now have a way to recharge the battery in as little as 15 minutes, this is still too long for normal use if you have more driving to do. Better Place came up with the idea of switching the battery completely instead of trying to recharge it. This way, they can keep fully charged batteries on the side and the driver can come in and get his battery changed in just a few minutes. Many challenges are still associated with this idea, but this is a step in the right direction for electric cars.
